Brian Ricks' black and white art photography is traditionally developed in a darkroom from original negatives on photographic paper and processed to meet archival standards of quality and conservation. They are presented in individually handcrafted pewter frames. Brian Ricks' photographs of land, sea and the built environment of Newfoundland are intended to last.
Although Brian is known for his memorable images of Newfoundland, he doesn't consider himself a landscape photographer. Brian points out that all of his images contain a building, garden, tool or person. There is always the trace of the human among the rocks, blowing grass or constantly moving waves. They are portraits of our intimate connection to this island and especially the water. The strength of Brian's images is that he is able to capture the picturesque and the emotional without sentimentality or cliché.
